The Bob Bubb Memorial Award
2009
The Bob Bubb Memorial Award was established in 1985 to honor the memory of Bob Bubb. Bob was president of the Flying Dutchmen Ski club when he died suddenly from complications related to surgery. Up until his death, he was a driving force in this club, always striving to promote and advance the sport of skiing. Even after his death, his accomplishments continue to inspire us to advance the sport and the club.
Due to Bob's enthusiasm and dedication to the FDSC, it was decided that an award should be given annually, in his honor, to a recipient who exhibits similar enthusiasm and dedication to the sport and the club. Former award recipients have formed the foundation of the club as we know it today and many continue to work tirelessly to make sure it prospers.
According to the guidelines for the Bob Bubb Memorial Award, "The Bob Bubb Memorial Award should be presented to an individual who has been extensively active in the ski club for many years in all facets of the club and especially taken part in some skiing activity. The person should show leadership and initiative and be dedicated to the club."
A list of the former recipients reflects the recent evolution and history of the club. The former recipients are:

We would like to thank all of the former Bob Bubb Memorial Award winners who participated in the selection process of this year's recipient.
Lori Henne, last year's winner of the Bob Bubb award, presented this year's
award at the June General Meeting. Her presentation
speech is listed below.
This
year's recipient joined the club in 2001 and served on the Board for three
terms as Competition Director and as Lodge Director. He has assisted in
running trips and he runs the golf outing and the Reading Phillies Happy
Hour. He has been apprenticing for the last two years and is showing his
continued commitment to the club by serving on the Board again as Programs
Director.
It is with great honor that I present the Bob Bubb Memorial Award to the
Committee's choice for 2009, Ed Soja!
Thank you, Ed, for your continued support to the club and
Congratulations!

FDSC
History
The one thing we all share in our Club, besides a love for skiing, is a long history. The Flying Dutchmen Ski Club has been serving its members
since 1959. In that time there have been lots of memories recorded on film, paper and old ski equipment. As the Historian, I am always looking for new "collectables" for our Club. It's a way in which we can continue on into the future and be able to look back at our past. Please contact me if you have any issues of old Ski Trails, photos, films that I could borrow and have recorded onto VHS, or old ski equipment that you would like to contribute to the Club's historical collection. If you would have the item dated, that would be of great help. We'll probably be having a 45th anniversary dinner/party in two years, so now is a good time to get all your old FDSC memories together and help your Club be able to show off it's history for the big event!
Here's a starter: Remember the professionally made promo video from back in the late '80's or early '90's? There were several on VHS and even a professional sized master copy. Do you have a copy? Know someone who does? There is no copy of it in our current records. Hopefully, this will be a first step for new additions!
Please contact me by e-mail: rlsskis@epix.net
Thanks!

2009 FDSC Golf Outing Results
Sunday, August 30, 2009
Green Acres Golf Course, Bernville, PA
What an awesome day for the Annual FDSC Golf Outing. Mother
Nature was very gracious and gave us a beautiful day with sunny skies
and the temperature in the low 80's. A great turnout of 66 Dutchmen
members and friends took to the links at Green Acres Golf Course in
Bernville, PA. There was plenty of food, drink, and fun for all. The
following winners earned the opportunity to choose from an abundance of
prizes:
Scramble Team Winners
1. Dave Yatsko, Greg Marshall, Tim Hozza, Jim
Flemming (60, 10 under par)
2. Dave Coffey, Sue McMullen, Kevin Centeleghe,
John Pietrowski (61, 9 under par)
3. Flo Frazier, Norm Krug, Gus Reed, Dan
Barube (63, 7 under par)
Closest to the pin winners were Lori Swan, Gus
Reed, Jim Flemming, Diane Lloyd, and Kevin Centeleghe.
Long Drive winners were Mark Werner, Flo
Frazier, Jim Dolan, and Flo Frazier.
A special thanks to
the helpers who came out to serve the golfers with snacks and beverages
during the round of golf. After the round they helped set up and serve
the baked ziti, meatballs, and cold buffet. This year's helpers were Jim
Biancone, Lori Hudson, Sue Merkel, Stan Miller, Lori Sullivan, Sherry
Vasquez, and Carol Weller. I'd also like to thank Dave Coffey, Diane
Ferro Soja, Debbie Pasquale, and Sue McMullen for help getting things to
the golf course and keeping things running smoothly. We had lots of
great prizes, some of which were donated by Dave Coffey, Dave Yatsko,
and Green Acres Golf Course. Thanks to everyone for coming out and
making this year a great success.
See you all next year,
Ed Soja
